Waxtra is run by one person in the UK. This page says what happens to your data, in plain English rather than legal boilerplate.
If you just browse
You can search Waxtra and look at any record without giving us anything. We do not ask you to sign in, we do not show adverts, and we do not use tracking or analytics cookies. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to.
Our web server keeps ordinary request logs, which include IP addresses, for a short period. That is how the site is kept running and abuse is spotted. They are not used to build any picture of you.
If you set up a watchlist
We store two things:
- Your email address.
- Which records you asked to watch, and the price you set for each.
- Two settings: whether alerts are paused, and whether you prefer UK sellers.
No name, no address, no payment details. Signing in works by emailing you a link, so you never need a password at all.
If you choose to set one, we store a scrypt hash of it, never the password itself. That is a one-way transformation: we cannot read your password, and nobody who obtained a copy of our database could either. You can remove it again at any time from your watchlist page.
If you sign in with Google, we store the account identifier Google gives us alongside your email address, so that you land in the same account each time. We ask Google only for your email address, nothing else, and we never receive your Google password.
What we send you
Only two kinds of email: a sign-in link when you ask for one, and an alert when a record reaches a price you named. Nothing else. We do not send newsletters or offers, and we will not start.
Saving a record to your watchlist does not sign you up for anything. Alerts are off unless you set a price on a specific record, and that act is the only consent we take. You can turn them off again per record, pause them all at once from your watchlist, or stop any of it from a link in the email itself.
Every alert has a one-click link to stop it, which works without signing in. You can also remove any record from your watchlist at any time.
Who else is involved
Email is delivered by Resend, who process your address in order to send the message. Their servers for this site are in the EU.
If you use Google sign-in, Google handles that sign-in and tells us your email address and an account identifier. This only happens if you choose that option.
When you click through to a shop, you are on their site under their privacy policy, not ours. Some of those links are affiliate links, including to Amazon, which means the shop may know you arrived from Waxtra and we may be paid a small commission. This never changes the prices you are shown or the order they appear in.
Record information and artwork come from Discogs, and track previews from Deezer. Loading a preview means Deezer receives a request from your browser.
How long we keep it
Your email address and watchlist stay until you ask us to delete them. Sign-in links expire after 30 minutes and can only be used once.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You do not have to ask us for any of it: sign in, open the Account tab on your watchlist, and you can download everything we hold as a file, or delete your account and all of it, immediately and permanently.
If you would rather a person did it, or you cannot sign in, email privacy@waxtra.com.
If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
How we make money
Most links on Waxtra pay us nothing. The independent record shops that make up nearly all of the catalogue are not affiliate partners, so clicking through to one of those earns us nothing at all. They are listed because they have the record, which is the entire point of the site.
Where Waxtra links to Amazon or eBay, those are affiliate links, and as an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. If that ever grows into other retailers, the rules below still apply to them.
- It never changes the price you pay. A commission comes out of the shop's margin, not your pocket.
- It never changes the order offers appear in. Offers are sorted by price.
- It never decides which shops are included. Shops are added for their catalogue, not their commission.
- It never hides a cheaper offer. If a shop that pays us nothing is cheapest, it goes at the top.
Comparison sites that quietly sort by commission are why people distrust comparison sites. Waxtra is only useful if the cheapest price shown really is the cheapest price found, so the commercial side is written down rather than left for you to guess at.

If this page changes in a way that affects you, the date at the top changes with it.
